Can a Golden Retriever swim?

The great majority of Golden Retrievers love the wet element. They are hunting companions with soft mouths and were used in the 19th century mainly for duck and wildfowl hunting.
In the process, the retriever often had to retrieve the shot birds from lakes and other bodies of water. Hence the name retriever. The English word "to retrieve" means "to bring back".
Naturally, quadrupeds with a high affinity for water were preferred for breeding. Because a jump into the cool water was often unavoidable at work.
Apart from that, most dogs (whether mixed breed or purebred) can swim. There are only a few exceptions. However, not every Golden Retriever appreciates the water. Some specimens don't like to go swimming, even though they can.
However, most Golden Retriever owners report that their four-legged friends are only too happy to jump into any pond, lake, or belly and love to get soaked. It doesn't matter what time of year it is or how dirty or clean the water is. If you buy a Golden Retriever, you can assume that he can swim or is even a real water rat.
Is your Golden Retriever completely typical for the breed and does he love the water? Does he jump into every puddle or is he rather water-shy? Leave a comment.
