To keep the exercise-loving Golden Retriever happy and busy, he needs enough physical and mental tasks. But how much exercise should there be?

Three walks a day (about 2-3 hours in total) are certainly the basis, but they should also be appealing and varied. So do not just go for a leisurely walk, but also ...

  • include brisk passages
  • meet other dogs
  • let sniff
  • practice retrieving
  • choose different routes
  • allow free running etc.

If you can't let the Golden Retriever off the leash (yet), give him more freedom of movement with the help of a dragline or visit a secured dog park if he is socially acceptable.

By the way, it doesn't always have to be a walk. If the Golden Retriever is old enough and has a solid condition, he is a great jogging partner or for bike tours to have.

A garden is great for the Retriever, but it is no substitute for exercise. Here, however, you can play great games, do some dog sports or enjoy the sun with your master.
